It is Rectangular floor plan with two roughness towers at its entrance. It was built in 1831, dominating the Square of Spain in a privileged position, the parish Temple stands as favoured building of Benejúzar. Following the neoclassical architectural trends of the time: cruciform plan, cruise, sacristy to the right of the presbytery, in the southernmost part. The classic orientation to the Churches of the East is not here, there is preferred that it looks to the orchard.
The temple has its main entrance on the north face; the porch is flanked by two unequal towers. The facade is composed of two parts: the top around a small window and the lower consists of an entrance with lintel flanked by two niches.
The south tower, is the clock tower of neo-Gothic style and the north tower, is the bell tower of neoclassical style.
It was inaugurated on October 20 of 1988, divided into two floors, ground floor and basement, in which we can find the “Municipal Archives" with documents dating until 1630 that is, the former site of the municipality. In it are located the municipal offices, as well as the Exhibition Hall "Beautiful pine," where a variety of exhibitions are realized throughout the year, The original shield of the old palace of Rosell , founders of the township Benejúzar, is presiding over the plenary hall, founders of the township Benejúzar.
As for the exterior, we can emphasize the existing mural on the facade, which represents the earthquake Benejúzar in 1829 and formed his current location and structure. This fascinating work is owed D. Francisco Pérez Rubio, a well-known local painter.
It was inaugurated in May 1995, with the name of the director of the Municipal Band. It is a light and transparent building, which does not hinder the vision of the square and is in line with the nearest building, the church, hence the use of white marble in its design.
There are celebrated concerts of wind and string as well as the election of the queen during the local festivals and the election of both the older Aragonese and more children in the pilgrimage of Pilar.
There in Benejúzar a shrine in honour of the Virgen del Pilar. It began as a chapel in the year 1941, and was built in record time of one week.
1943 was the year of building the new chapel, which became sanctuary in 1980.
It is probably our more significant patrimony. The mountainous part of the municipal area is located to the south, and in geomorphology is the "anticline of Benejúzar". The maximum heights are in the "top of the Escotera" (195m.), "Cabezo de los Mozos" (168m.) and "Cabezo Redondo" (166m.), which is an important landscape balcony, from which we can distinguish a great part of the Vega Baja. Due to the fact that the slopes are not very marked (25.40%) this favours the practise of hiking.
There is celebrated every year on October 12 a spectacular pilgrimage in which coaches full of colour parade with the happy mañicos and mañicas singing to the sound of the jota. At 1 of the midday is celebrated a typical Aragonese mass in honour to their virgin, later there is a lunch in the field.
Already in the first pilgrimage the pilgrims went to look for the Virgin on foot, horseback and in carriages decorated with garlands of paper and cut of tin-plate.
Those first mounts and carriages soon gave way to motor vehicles on which the pilgrims got on to happy figures: first on truck, later on trailer pulled by tractors and the smaller ones, for many years, on motocarro.
Have always been young of Benejúzar the makers of the coaches using something old, something new and something borrowed: with already used wood, wrapping paper, nails, wire, glue or paste made by themselves, ropes, with help of small tools and a lot of skill all years they built simple structures that then they cover with diverse materials of colour to give to the coach a high final. A store lend for any neighbour uses them as improvised workshop and meeting place where they share their free time in a dream job.
It is remarkable for the traditional and typical from the dawn of the coaches, the technique of curling paper introduced by D. Jerome: pieces of tissue paper or cellophane of colours rolled into a reel, pencil or into your finger forming as small pink that stick on the figure you want to decorate. For several weeks, night after night, with many patient the boys and girls are sticking the pink one after another until the ephemeral work of art is finished.
With the arrival of spring the Holy Week comes. This liturgical time is in Benejúzar the most religious moment of the whole year. The people who live in Benejúzar celebrate the passion processions and religious services and events in which almost all the people are actively involved.
More InformationThere is celebrated at the end of May or beginning of June, approximately, it takes place the "Festival of Moors and Christians", in honour to the Santísima Virgen del Rosario.
The origins of the festival of Moors and Christians in the town are humble, like almost all the beginning. Located in the October 12, 1993, we have a collaboration as usual, of a group of young people of Benejúzar in theirs Holidays to Ntra. Sra. del Pilar. This year they had an Arabic mosque, and after obtaining a series of rewards and usual satisfactions, was the beginning of a new festival in which everyone could participate also those who wish, independently of any condition. With these factors above mentioned and plus a great deal of enthusiasm, joy, common sense, perseverance, work, etc ..., we arrived in 1994 to the Festival of Ntra. Sra. Del Rosario, patron of Benejúzar. The people, in this festivity, were working in different way. So this group of restless persons working in an attempt to add something that was different, innovative, positive, and never seen in the Festivities of Benejúzar.
