Parrish Church of San Miguel Arcangel

Church of Daya Nueva

The most important architectural element of the municipality is his Parochial Church that is under the dedication of San Miguel Arcangel.

In June of 1.992 a wall was discovered of chance form of some 10m. Of length that was forming a part of a funeral Iberian monument known as pilar-stela.

Its base would be staggered, of that it would start a rectangular or quadrangular body finished off by a gullet (a kind of great capital) and, on it, a sculpture of royal or fantastic animal. These remains dated between the centuries V and the IV B.C. they were catalogued as the richest funeral Iberian architecture of the province.

Musical Group San Miguel Arcanjel

Annually there are celebrated two Literary contests that through the years have reached great renown and wide diffusion, both national and international, specially the Literary Contest Daya Nueva that goes for his edition XL, another contest is the Contest of Juvenile Poetry Miguel Hernández, they are celebrated in September as beginning of the patron saints festivities.

Also there is a School of Music and his Band, that with his concerts and formation they enrich the culture of the people.


Popular Festivals

San Miguel Arcángel

The principal ones are Festivities in honour of San Miguel Arcangel. They are celebrated between 20 and on September 30 and there take place numerous acts that are characterized by the civil participation as: the parades, the popular verbenas, the parade of coaches, the infantile games, infantile festival, sports activities, diverse exhibitions and the acts religions finishing with it with the Solemn Procession in honour to the Patron Saint San Miguel Arcangel and the magnificent dawn.

In October there are celebrated the Holidays of the Warehouse, Daya Nueva's neighbourhood, in honour to Nuestra Señora Del Rosario which take place the weekend following its feast day that is October 7. There celebrates an open-air mass and a typical luncheon of chocolate with buns and sponge cake prepared by the neighbours and in the evening procession.

Around December 8 there are celebrated the Festivites of The Inmaculada Concepcion, Patron Saint of Daya Nueva, by diverse religious acts.

May 15 is San Isidro Labrador and take place the festivities of the district of Puebla de Rocamora, in these days diverse acts are celebrated, chocolate by buns, movement of the image in pilgrimage to her hermitage, open-air mass, popular food in the area of playtime and return in the evening of the image to the church.

Holy Week

Holy Sepulcro

In May, 1987 there was founded the Confraternity Nuestro Padre Jesús del Buen Rescate, for a group of 25 women being to the head Mari Cruz Ricarte and Mari Carmen Girona.

The Image tranfered by Ramon Castillo's family, it is of the sculptor Enrique Bellido of 1940.

Thanks to the parson D. Ángel Úbeda Ruiz it was possible to reach successfully this initiative and in the Holy Week of 1988 it went out again in the procession of Good Friday.
